The NS direction line complied with the requirement of precision specification must be determined before setting up the seismic instrument. Due to the interference of magnetic declination and some other external factor, the orientating precision of this approach which used to take advantage of the compass is low. This paper is going to analysis and compare those waveform correlated orientating methods which make use of the compass and the north finding, and reinvestigate their practicability in the actual operation.
