In order to enable transformative research in earthquake science and continue to lead the scientific frontier on the fault systems and earthquake processes, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is preparing for a competition for future support of one or more earthquake center(s) focused on coordinating research in fundamental earthquake science, and openly solicit the construction vision, scientific direction, function setting and infrastructure construction ideas of the new center(s). The Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) actively responded and submitted 24 proposals. This paper gives an overview of these proposals and hopes to provide a reference for further in-depth interpretation of them.
